Life takes on profound meaning when we embrace the teachings of the Dhamma. Our lives flourish when we not only understand, but also practice these invaluable principles. This transformative journey, the path of the Buddha, stands open before you – a journey of spiritual awakening that awaits those who dare to explore its depths.
We warmly invite you to join our enriching Dhamma Study & Daily Practice class. This is your weekly opportunity to dive into the depths of the Dhamma, guided by Venerable K. Rathanasara.
Every Sunday, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, immerse yourself in the sanctuary of Dhammakami Buddhist Society, located at No. 29, Lorong 29 Geylang, #06-01/02, Singapore 388078.
Our journey comprises of three essential chapters: the sacred act of paying homage to the Triple Gem, the art of nurturing the mind through meditation, and the profound exploration of Suttas through Dhamma talks.
HOMAGE TO TRIPLE GEM
When we honour the Triple Gem and are guided by a deep understanding them, we nurture our spiritual growth. These daily devotional practices fortify our connection to the Triple Gem and help us gain greater peace and mental wellbeing. As dedicated Buddhists, we must learn these basic forms of devotional practice that can be performed in temples or in our own homes. Our class commences with a 30-minute group devotional session, including recitations, mindful reflections, and paying homage to the Triple Gem.
MEDITATION
Just as we nurture our bodies with exercise and nutrition, our minds also require care to remain strong, pleasant, and productive. The path to a healthy mind is paved with constructive, wholesome thoughts. The Buddha’s wisdom centers on mental development and transformation, with meditation as its cornerstone. Meditation is not merely an option for Buddhists; it’s a necessity. By cultivating the habit of regular meditation, we can enhance our mental and physical well-being, which ripples into visible improvements in our daily lives. Each class offers a 45-minute guided meditation, exploring different subjects weekly, such as Mindfulness on Breath, Loving Kindness, Contemplation on Impermanence, and the Five Reflections. Meditating as a group offers the collective motivation to sustain a full 45-minute meditation, a task that might seem daunting alone.
SUTTA STUDY
The timeless teachings of the Buddha are meticulously documented in the Discourses (Suttas). Learning these Discourses is of paramount importance for Buddhists, providing a profound understanding of the Buddha’s wisdom and insight. The universality of His teachings, applicable then and now, is truly awe-inspiring. Our class dedicates 45 minutes to delve deep into these Discourses, with detailed explanations and group readings. Whether you join us at the beginning or in the middle of a term, there’s always something new to uncover.
FELLOWSHIP GATHERING
As the venerable Ānanda once conveyed to the Buddha, “This is half of the holy life, Lord – admirable friendship, admirable companionship, admirable camaraderie.” The Buddha responded, “Don’t say that, Ānanda. Admirable friendship, admirable companionship, admirable camaraderie is actually the whole of the holy life.” (Upaddha Sutta). Spiritual friendships that encourage and nurture our Dhamma practice are invaluable. Our monthly fellowship (Kalyānamitta) gatherings are designed to foster such connections. Join us for snacks, drinks, and the blossoming of spiritual camaraderie.
Embark on this illuminating journey with us. The Dhamma Study & Daily Practice class is your path to enlightenment, a chance to elevate your life and the lives of those around you.
May you always be well and happy!
