Our Mission

Our mission is to be as an effective vehicle to propagate the noble teachings of the Buddha.

Our Story

Planting the seeds of Dhamma – the vision that started it all.

It began at the renowned Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple at St. Michael’s Road. With the kind support of the temple management committee, our founder, Venerable K. Rathanasara, then a resident monk, led a committed group of followers to propagate the Dhamma. The activities we organized brought hordes of Dhamma practitioners, as well as those beginning their search for knowledge of Buddhism, to the temple ground. This convinced us that there was a gaping need to proactively reach out to people beyond the temple walls. With this as inspiration, the Dhammakami Buddhist Society (DKBS) was formed in November 2007.

Members of DKBS continued the Dhamma work and practice with the temple while, at the same time, began their outreach with community service projects, an annual Sanghika Dana & Sharing of Merits to mark the seventh month of the lunar year, and even participated in the Tapestry of Sacred Music held at the Esplanade in 2015.

The setting up of an independent DKBS Centre in January 2018 heralds a new era. Although we left the sanctuary of Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple, DKBS continues to build on the momentum and experience acquired in its years there. Operating out of our new premises in Lorong 29 Geylang, we are now poised to expand our Dhamma outreach activities and to be truly a vehicle that keeps the wheels of Dhamma propagation turning.
