Some Buddhists believe that the best chance for enlightenment is when the future Buddha is on earth and so they aspire to be born into that era. While there is nothing wrong with making such an aspiration, it will be futile if they do not develop themselves spiritually – now. Developing our moral qualities, training our minds and developing our wisdom are necessary on the path to enlightenment. So, why do we even wait at all for the future Buddha when the dhamma is still with us? Should we not focus on practising diligently now?
