Remember those times when conflict arises and how they were resolved – but not before everyone involved felt miserable and unhappy? If only soft power was used instead, the outcome would have been different. Soft power, according to the dhamma, is the application of skillful means to settle disputes without generating negative kamma. It applies the Buddhist principles of non-attachment, compassion and wisdom – but how do they work? Furthermore, how do we harness soft power in practice?
