Is Nibbana to be attained here and now? The disciples of the Buddha, mostly monks and nuns, choose to dedicate to realize the Four Noble Truths to cease their sensual desires or cravings and attain the bliss of freedom during this lifetime. Whereas the majority of lay followers of the Buddha are taking the gradual path to Enlightenment and, in the meantime, still constantly seek out opportunities to gratify their cravings unaware that there are drawbacks in their quest.
