In this short yet deeply reflective discourse, the Buddha explains that having a child does not automatically bring blessings to parents.  The true benefit arises only when the child is virtuous, faithful, and lives a wholesome life.  Such a child offers care and support in this life and, after death, may dedicate meritorious deeds to their parents, bringing them further well-being.

On the other hand, if the child is unwholesome, parents receive no true benefit – neither inn this life nor beyond.

This teaching encourages parents to guide their children to develop wholesome qualities and encourages children to live righteously, out of gratitude and loving kindness.  It is a reminder that spiritual values give lasting meaning to familial bonds.
