The Buddhist path is a path of gradual practice and understanding, step-by-step towards realisation of the truth.

Saddha or commonly translated into English as Faith, is an important element in our practice. What is faith? Faith is having confidence, based on reasoning, in the teachings of the Enlightened One – the Buddha, and his enlightened disciples. The faith here, is one which is rational, and not blind faith. It makes us anchored in the Triple Gem, without which we will not make any achievement in our practice.

In this sutta, we learn about the five benefits that come to a person endowed with faith. What are these five benefits? What characteristics does a person endowed with faith have? How can having faith help us in our practice towards realising the truth and attaining awakening?
