The Dhammapada verses in today’s talk gives us an insight into the significance of the offering of incense to the Buddha – it is an act of recalling his supreme virtues. It is not a magical ritual but an expression of our respect for the Buddha and the virtues he represents. It also encourages us to aspire to follow in his footsteps. The significance goes even deeper when we understand the metaphors of the fragrance of virtue and how it blows against the wind, as described in the verses. What do they mean? What are the Dhamma lessons behind them?
